Create Food for your Miniature Dollhouse
Don’t Forget the Miniature Food
If you built or have a miniature dollhouse and spend hours finding things for it, making furniture with your child or grandchild, then you might want to think of making some of your miniatures. When you have to buy all of the miniature items, it can get very expensive. An easy project is for you is to make your own miniature food crafts for your dollhouse. Making miniature food is really very easy.
The best material around for making great miniature food is Polymer clay. Now you will also need small and very intricate carving tools. The best type of tool for this type of work is your average toothpick. You will also need spray liquid varnish. This is so that your finished miniature food can be protected.
The following are just a few examples of the types of miniature foods you can make:
Miniature Watermelon
Take a tiny bit of pink or light red polymer clay and then make it into a very small egg shape. Sharpen the edges into a triangular-like shape as if it were a watermelon. Then take a small bit of green clay and wrap it around the red clay. Give it the shape of a slice of watermelon.
You can make miniature tomatoes, bananas, peaches, and just about any fruit you want using polymer clays. Once you have finished the fruit you will want to give it a nice spray with the spray varnish for a great shine.
The Food Accessories
You can make food accessories like boxes, plates etc., from diagrams. These scaled diagrams can be found online. There are accessories made from Manila paper that you can get from used envelopes, from cardboard and many other materials.
There are lots of miniature foods that only require a bit of your imagination to make. All you need to do is think about what the food looks like and that is it. It is much like making play dough food like you made when you were a child.
The Importance of Accessories
Probably one of the most important things that many miniature dollhouse owners overlook is the accessorizing of the house. It is the little things that really make the miniature forms stand out. When you have miniature wood in the fireplace, complete table settings, pictures on the walls, and all the things a regular home has, then you have a really interesting and exceptional dollhouse.
Most of these accessories are not difficult to make but they are extremely small, so the tools you need to form them will vary and can include a plain needle, a toothpick, an edge of a piece of paper, or just about anything.
You will not really understand the types of tools you will need until you actually start making the accessories. When you start making food accessories, kitchen accessories, or any type of accessory for the miniature dollhouse, you will quickly get more and more ideas on what you can do, and what you can make them with.
Look in arts and crafts books and online for ideas. Remember you don’t have to follow their instructions exactly, but you will find plenty of great ideas there.
